You’ve decided that you want to update your kitchen, build out your family room, or redesign your great room, and that means engaging a craftsman in designing and building custom cabinets. Working with a shop to create custom cabinets for your home isn’t something you’re likely to do very often, so you may be wondering what the process entails. Here’s a simple primer to give you an idea of what to expect when you work with Stigler’s on your custom cabinetry.
First, we’ll start with an idea. You can bring your ideas to us or we can come to you to see the space and talk about styles and designs that would work well for your home. While we’re in there, we’ll take important measurements that will allow us to create cabinets that are an exact fit.
Then you’ll work with our designers to narrow down style choices until you’ve found a winning look. You’ll choose important features like doors styles, drawers, and lighting. You’ll also decide on what type of wood you’d like us to use as well as the stain color (we can easily match existing cabinets or furniture) and hardware (knobs, pulls, and hinges) for your cabinets.
Next we’ll take all of that information back to our offices and create custom, detailed drawings of your project. You’ll review and approve the drawings before we move forward so that any mistakes or adjustments are worked out ahead of construction.
Your cabinets are built from scratch, so we’ll pull from our stacks of raw lumber: Cherry, Walnut, Mahogany, Maple, Ash, Oak, and many other types of wood, in order to start on your project. When construction on your cabinets is complete, we will apply custom blended stain of your choice to enhance the beauty of the wood. We finish each piece with a sealer coat and then two topcoats of lacquer for added protection.
After the cabinets are built to perfection, we load them into our trucks and deliver them to local clients for installation by the same craftsman who built them. This ensures perfection of the cabinetry and the installation process. At this point we’ll do any finish carpentry such as installing crown molding and baseboards.
There’s really no better way to enhance a room than with custom cabinets. Other options may save some money now, but you’ll never get the same personal style or high quality craftsmanship as you do with custom cabinets.
Give us a call today to find out more about choosing custom cabinets for your home or office. We can design and build in any style and are always happy to work with you to match the existing furniture in your home.
